Det visar sig att jag delar rimmet trist\/sist med Johansson \u2013 men hos honom \u00e5terfinns det p\u00e5 raderna tio och elva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Den f\u00f6reg\u00e5ende strofen<\/a> tecknar en str\u00e5lande framtid f\u00f6r den stackars Lenskij; ovan beskrivs ist\u00e4llet en h\u00f6gst ordin\u00e4r levnadsbana. Vilket vore mest troligt? Sona Stephan Hoisington argumenterar (i en ess\u00e4 tryckt som inledning till Arndts \u00f6vers\u00e4ttning) f\u00f6r att det \u00e4r det alldagliga \u00f6det som \u00e4r det rimligaste:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This prosaic future seems, in fact, more in keeping with Lensky’s character than the lofty fate imagined by the poet-friends. For Lensky is not a gifted poet but a na\u00efve young man who writes derivative verse. His future plans included marriage to a very ordinary young lady, Olga, who undoubtedly would have become the petty tyrant her mother is. Given the \u201cprecarious\u201d nature of youthful enthusiasm and the deadening effect of routine, it seems very likely that Lensky would in the end have idled away his life in a quilted dressing gown. Appropriately, the lot Pushkin projects for Lensky is reminiscent of the life of Olga’s father, Dmitri Larin. Even the details are the same: the dressing gown, the idle life, the excessive attention to eating and drinking, the complacency, and the uneventful death (see Chapter II.34<\/a>\u201336<\/a>).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
